We will be recreating a lively and bustling Tudor town market in the market square. Including making pies in our portable 16th Century oven, ballad selling, hawking kitchen supplies, glass, second hand shoes, rush mats and just about anything anyone would buy!
Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June – Festival of History: Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton, West Sussex
At this event we will again occupy the Tudor market square and unique row of shops, focussing on trades and commerce including printing, chapmans and sorting fleeces for sale. Watch out for the market officials with their weights and measures!
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July – Smell and Personal Hygiene: Little Moreton Hall, Congleton, Cheshire
Visit this iconic Tudor Manor house and experience how the sense of smell, miasmas and perfumes were intertwined with Elizabethan concepts of heath, hygiene and personal attraction.
Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September – Harvest: Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton, West Sussex
Bringing in the wheat harvest and processing into flour, rope, straw and animal feed. Help us with the hot work of threshing, winnowing and grinding or just sit back and watch this age old process in action!
