Lawrence Washington, His Doublet

Lawrence Washington, His Doublet

The material for this silk brocade suit in the 16th century would have been of such a cost as to limit it to extreme extravangence to a man like Lawrence Washington, particularly as he was not that wealthy.

As to the recreation, the materials cost the best part of £400; much less in comparison to the period.

Here the doublet is not quite finished; another aspect of some of our recreations is the finishing of clothing by a tailor. Though this one was actually because Jon did not realise the amount of work involved !. Each button takes 30 minutes to make and there were over 25. None the less, one late night and it was complete.
