A Stayned Cloth

Painted hangings are common in period inventories; sometimes referred to as Stayned Clothes.

This cloth has been sized with rabbit skin glue and the pigments are then mixed with linseed oil. This makes the colours that more vibrant than a pure rabbit skin paint.

The pigments used here are red ochre; yellow ochre(2 sorts); chalk and Terre Vert.

The Group prides itself in having all the furnishing needed to fill any house up to a reasonably wealthy Yeoman. At the foot of the photogragh can be seen one of our rush mats; of which we have seven.
