
A full-on experiment means that we only used rushlights when absolutely necessary.
This is a picture looking through the hearth room into the bedroom (you can just make out the door frame to the side of the painted hanging). This illustrates some of the difficulties encountered in this project.
When inside the house your eyes rapidly adjust to the light levels. However anything dropped on the floor disappears into the gloom. Then a rushlight is needed.
A single rushlight does provide enough light to see in the room, but again doing any fine work is impossible.
Obviously the occupants of these houses would done such work outside in fair weather.
