Christmas Fayre

The Copper

Mary Rose Trust - Portsmouth (2003)

A 400 litre copper pot sits on top of the fire-box. We normally put around 200 litres of water in it and can bring that to a rolling boil from cold (with no fire) in around 45 minites on a good day ! .

We believe it was most likely used as a hot water supply in which the sailors food was cooked in linen bags or other containers to keep the water relatively clean.
