A Trayned Bandes Archer

The Weald and Downland Museum (2005)

This image shows one a typical archer of the Elizabethan period.

The bow is of English yew and would have been described in the period as of the second sort; costing around 2 shillings.

This particular bow has a draw weight of 85lbs; slightly less than that of the typical draw weight of earlier periods; but not unrealistic for a war bow of the turn of the 16th century.
