This event saw the arrival of painters producing cloth hangings for the manor.
Such a painting like this is around 70 hours work - clearly not the kind of thing the lower classes would have afforded. However period cheaper ones of geometric patterns were also produced. Inventories show second hand ones for as little as a half-penny.Photographer: Susanne Atkin
