At midday we had an influx of members of The Group portraying local agricultural workers in for a cheap, hot meal. As can be seen by the manners of some of them .

An Ordinary typically sells food at a fixed rate; hence The Penny Ordinary or the Three-penny Ordinary .

A meal of the poorer sort, such as these people are eating, would have been based around a vegetable pottage and bread.

Food was produced throughout the day so that the public could see all the associated activities.
