A Discussion

The picture above shows a number of the local inhabitants discussing "The Spaniard" a typical topic of the period of which they probably knew little, but spoke much.

The man in the foreground however is of a better upbringing and could probably correct them on a few points (though wisely chose not too !).

Running an event such as an Alehouse could sound like, to some groups,  a good excuse for a leisurely event.

The Tudor Group however ran this event in our usual way:-

• An introduction to the visitors explaining the evidence; the scenario; what they will see and that they should talk to the participants.
• A number of timed activities to draw the public - not any amateur dramatics - just games; music & demonstrations of skills.
• Continuous activity within the alehouse - food being prepared; board games and dicing & discussion within the group & involving the public.
• Domestic activities outside the building - washing; a knife grinder; spinning; clothing repair etc.
• An Elizabethan puppet show; with a child-friendly tale of Robin Hood.

So while we were only focused on a single building, the public got more than just a fleeting glimpse of a domestic interior.
